Bordeaux – Lorient

Bordeaux can still escape from last place in Ligue 1. Can they beat Lorient?

On Matchday 37 of the French championship, Bordeaux play Lorient at home. Both teams are at the bottom of the table and are quite motivated. Bordeaux are bottom of Ligue 1, but are not yet officially relegated and may even escape. They are four behind play-off zone. There's not much more to look forward to, however. Because with two rounds to the end of the championship Bordeaux is seven points behind the saving 17th position, which is located just Lorient. But that does not mean Lorient itself is safe. They are just three points above the play-off zone, which, of course, no one wants to get into. Lorient need to win to be safe. Lorient have lost their last three fixtures by a combined score of 1-10. They were thrashed by Rennes and Marseille and Reims. On the road, Lorient have only two wins with 11 defeats and five draws. The last time Lorient failed to play away was exactly two months ago - in the match against Clermont. Curiously, Lorient have only won twice in their last 33 games in Ligue 1. That said, Lorient try to play attacking football and have some good performers in attack. But they lack organization and realization of chances. Bordeaux have similar problems, even more pronounced. Bordeaux concede a lot, and from everyone. Last time round, the Avitaine were thrashed by a largely unmotivated Angers - 1:4. Before that, Bordeaux lost to Nice (0-1) and Nantes (3-5). There was also a 2-2 draw with Saint-Etienne and a 1-6 defeat by Lyon. Even on home soil, Bordeaux concede a lot. They have only three wins, six draws and nine defeats at home. In the first round of this season, Lorient and Bordeaux played out a 1-1 draw. The teams have no particular losses ahead of this match. The top scorers are still in the ranks. Bordeaux's are Hwang and Elis who netted 11 and nine goals respectively. And Lorient have a more even distribution of goals. Top scorer Moffy has only eight goals.
