Angers – Lille

Lille are unbeaten in seven rounds. Will the series continue?

Lille continue to fight for a chance of qualifying for next season's European competitions. Recently, the team have had problems attacking, but they have more to do with their ability to create goalscoring chances than with execution. In the last round, Lille played out a 0-0 draw with Bordeaux, but they made nearly 30 shots and it was only by some miracle that the Acquitaine did not concede. Lille's attacking potential should be used sooner rather than later. In addition, the team no longer needs to be distracted by other competitions. And Lille's defence is absolutely fine. Lille have not lost in Ligue 1 for seven games and have not conceded a goal in that span. In doing so, three of the seven games ended 0-0. Lille have won their last three away matches by the same score of 1-0, with Lyon, Montpellier and Nantes not the weakest of opponents. If Lille are trying to reach the Eurocup zone from their seventh place, Angers are trying to stay away from the relegation zone and the play-offs. Angers traditionally do well in the first part of the season and fail in the second. There are four points between seventh place Lille and fourth place Strasbourg. Angers know how to put up a fight, but have not been very successful at doing so in this part of the season. Of the last nine rounds, Angers have lost in eight. It only picked up a win in its last home game against Brest. And last round they lost away to Lyon (2:3), although they put up quite serious resistance. Still, Lille are far more reliable in defence than Lyon. Therefore, Angers' attack will not take any such liberties. It should be noted that Lille lost points to Angers in the first leg in a 1-1 draw. But we remember that Angers then and now are two different teams. Lille and Angers will be able to rely on all their best players in this game. Les Dogues have one of the brightest scorers of the season in the squad, Jonathan David with 13 goals in Ligue 1. Angers top scorer is Boufal with seven goals. At home, Angers have won six matches this season but lost eight. With one draw. And Lille have six away wins with five defeats and four draws.
